From 20th to 25th December, one of the biggest events in the British
Jewish communal diary, Limmud Festival, took place. A celebration of Jewish
life with sessions on everything from campus life to Cabaret, Jewish history
and Jewish futures, and politics to pastiche. During the 5 day festival, JDA Noah Katz delivered three
talks on a range of topics.
They kicked off with "The Rise and Fall of a
Jewish Princess - It's Time for the Grown-Ups to Step Aside", a session
linking Chappell Roan to their newly published chapter in "Young Zionist
Voices." Together with The President of The Board of Deputies of British Jews, Phil
Rosenberg (WJC Vice President & JD UK), Noah hosted a workshop on
"Young Leadership in the Community - For the Present and for the
Future" where they explored both their leadership journeys and how The
Board of Deputies are empowering the next generation of Jewish leadership with
the Under 35 Assembly before opening up to their audience to learn what they want to see from
communal organisations to strengthen the voice of young people in all facets of
Jewish life. Finally, Noah presented their postgraduate research "Hidden
in the Margins: Examining Complexities of Jewish Staff Belonging in English
& Welsh Higher Education" which looks at the other side of being
Jewish on Campus from the perspective of both Jewish academics and Jewish
professional services (administrative) staff. This research looks at Campuses
as workplaces - whilst probing whether they should even be workplaces - and how
Jewish staff feel working whilst antisemitism is at an all time high. The
research findings are influencing how The Board of Deputies are approaching
their work on workplace support for British Jews which Noah is working on in their new role as Jewish Staff Network Support
Officer!
