The Farhud, the Pogrom Against the Jews of Baghdad

The Farhud, meaning 'violent dispossession' in Arabic, was an anti-Jewish pogrom carried out in Baghdad, Iraq on June 1, 1941. A vicious mob went door to door to Jewish homes in Baghdad, killing, raping, looting. Horrific scenes which are familiar to us yet again from October 7.

It was a shocking turning point for the Iraqi Jewish community.
