NEW YORK – The World Jewish Congress castigated the report by the United Nations Special Rapporteur that falsely accuses Israel of practicing apartheid.
The WJC will formally present its objections to the report during the relevant discussion Friday, March 24, at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.
WJC Executive Vice President Maram Stern released the following statement in response to these events:
“In no uncertain terms, the World Jewish Congress condemns this shameful report, which repeats the libel that Israel practices apartheid and demonstrates a clear and pre-existing anti-Israel bias by the Special Rapporteur.
“The report lacks serious legal backing and presents a false narrative that ignores Palestinian acts of terrorism as well as Israel’s obligation to defend all its citizens. It does not offer a realistic or constructive path forward, and reveals no actual interest in promoting the human rights of Palestinians or in advancing peace through a lasting, two-state solution.
“The politicized and one-sided report, brimming with inflammatory rhetoric, also underscores the UN Human Rights Council’s pervasive anti-Israel bias. Time and again, the council singles out Israel, further distancing Israelis and Palestinians and diverting attention and resources from human rights abuses around the globe.”
