Buenos Aires, Argentina – JD Rabino Jonas Shalom, in collaboration with the World Jewish Congress (WJC) Jewish Diplomatic Corps and the Latin American Jewish Congress (LAJC), hosted a meaningful interfaith event on November 9 to commemorate Kristallnacht. This initiative brought together Jewish and Catholic high school students for a shared opportunity to reflect on historical lessons and foster interfaith dialogue.
The event, held at a local theater, featured a powerful performance of "The Hunter and the Good Nazi." This play sparked deep discussions on themes of tolerance, empathy, and remembrance. Distinguished guests included Ariel Gelblung, Director of the Simon Wiesenthal Center for Latin America; Karen Rofchuc, Director of Visitors of the Shoah Museum in Buenos Aires; Romain Nadal, French Ambassador to Argentina; Alejandra Tolcachier, Director of March for Life Argentina; Holocaust survivor Rosa Rotenberg; Julio Bitelli, Brazilian Ambassador to Argentina; and Marco Gallo, representing the Argentine Catholic University.
With over 160 attendees, primarily young students, the event resonated strongly with its audience. The evening concluded with a moving candlelighting ceremony led by Holocaust survivor Rosa Rotenberg. Born in the Warsaw Ghetto, Rotenberg shared her personal commitment to remembrance and thanked the audience, affirming her ongoing dedication to sharing her story with younger generations.
This interfaith initiative exemplifies the strength of community connection, providing young Argentinians a unique opportunity to engage with history and one another and reinforcing values of respect and mutual understanding across faiths.
