Regional Meeting

Thirteen members of the WJC Jewish Diplomatic Corps gathered in New York City from July 27 to 29 for the first regional meeting of Jewish diplomats since the 16th Plenary Assembly. The North America Regional Meeting provided an opportunity to reconnect with the World Jewish Congress’ mission, address urgent global challenges, and enhance the effectiveness of Jewish advocacy across multiple fronts.
Over the course of three days, participants engaged in meaningful dialogue with consular officials and expert speakers, while immersive workshops equipped them with practical skills ranging from fundraising and community organizing to confronting antisemitism in the digital era.
Director of WJC Elevate Yoni Hammerman, Community Relations Executive Director Maya Cimeša Samokovlija, and Jewish Diplomatic Corps Manager Viktor Eichner provided an overview of the World Jewish Congress’ structure, global priorities, and guiding principles that underpin its work.
Lauren Rose, Executive Director, Executive Office and Jacob Fishman, Governance and Diplomatic Affairs Manager, led a session providing an overview of the WJC's diplomatic efforts at the UN in New York and Geneva, UNESCO, and other global institutions. The cohort also prepared for their upcoming consulate meetings in New York, discussing key talking points and high-priority agenda items.
WJC's Director of Political Affairs, David Meluskey, briefed the cohort on WJC North America's engagement with key U.S. institutions and decision-makers. He highlighted ongoing efforts to combat anti-Jewish hate crimes and to reinforce American support for Israel following the October 7 terrorist attacks, including strategic collaboration with senior administration figures and members of Congress.
The WJC-American Section hosted a dinner welcoming Elevate to New York City. Andrew Gross, Director, International Innovation and Partnerships, New Jersey Economic Development Authority gave a keynote address, speaking about his extensive experience maintaining economic ties between the state of New Jersey and Israel.
Joe Richards, National Director, AIPAC and Sara Friedman, WJC American Section & WJC North America led a workshop on the art of fundraising, sharing tips and tactics on how to lead a successful campaign.
During a candid roundtable discussion with WJC's Executive Vice President Maram Stern, the Jewish Diplomatic Corps had the opportunity to learn about his experience and insight on global affairs, diplomacy, and philanthropy. They discussed ways to make a positive impact in different Jewish communities and the importance of Jewish unity.
Yfat Barak-Cheney, Executive Director, Technology and Human Rights, discussed the WJC Technology and Human Rights Institute's work with tech companies such as Meta and TikTok and the increasing threat of online hate.
Jay Ruderman, president of the Ruderman Family Foundation, shared insights from his book Find Your Fight with members of the JDCorps and Lauder Fellowship, offering practical guidance on how to be effective advocates for Jewish life.
JDCorps members met with several consulates during the program, offering the WJC’s assistance on key issues such as combating antisemitism and strengthening Jewish life. These meetings also served as a platform to share insights and relay the concerns of their local Jewish communities.
Community Relations Executive Director Maya Cimeša Samokovlija and Jewish Diplomatic Corps Manager Viktor Eichner concluded the session by outlining core lessons from the regional meeting and presenting concrete next steps to deepen regional collaboration, strengthen engagement, and expand the impact of JDCorps initiatives.
