Alexander Gentsis was born on August 26, 1971, in Moscow, into a Jewish family.
He graduated with honors from the Moscow State Institute of Radio Engineering, Electronics and Automation (MIREA), earning a degree in software engineering from the Faculty of Cybernetics.
A technology entrepreneur, he has been active in the information technology sector since 1991 and is a co-founder of several companies recognized among the leaders of Russia’s IT industry.
In the late 2010s, he turned his attention to Jewish communal life. In 2020, he became Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Moscow community Dor Revi’i. In 2022, he published an edition of the Torah with commentary by Rabbi Samson Raphael Hirsch, which became one of the most popular editions in the Russian-speaking Jewish world. The edition, with a print run of 10,000 copies, is distributed in synagogues across Russia, Israel, the United States, and many other countries.
Since 2024, he has served as a patron of the charitable programs of the Russian Jewish Congress. On March 26, 2025, the Bureau of the Presidium of the Russian Jewish Congress unanimously endorsed his candidacy and recommended his election as the organization’s next President. On the same day, he was appointed Acting President of the Congress. He has served as President of the Russian Jewish Congress since May 27, 2025.
He is married and has two sons.
